Our research bridges basic and applied research traditions. Cognitive-ethnographic work (naturalistic observations and surveys) helps to refine research questions and orient theory development in directions that provide explanatory power in applied settings. Laboratory experimentation allows for the development of more detailed and meaningful theories to explain decision making outside the laboratory.
Our research is transdisciplinary. We work closely with domain experts, such as Earth and planetary scientists and engineers, to ensure the ecological validity of the questions we ask, and the stimuli we test.
